Jonathan’s works are all created
using the time consuming kiln process. Inside the kiln
he makes a sculpture from refractory material, usually
sand and plaster over which he lays the glass. As the
kiln heats up the material under the glass dissolves
allowing the glass to take form. The process can take
up to three days to complete. Once the pieces cool
they are cleaned and sandblasted of all refractory
material. To add to the sculptural and integral beauty
of each work copper is electroformed to the glass.
Finally a patina is applied to the copper to give the
glass sculpture color.
